Thursday:
I had class until 10:40, ate lunch, and then went to work in Jacksonville. I filled out tax forms, new employee forms, etc. and met my new co-worker, Cory. He and I were sent out to Sherwood to put up flyers in businesses about our tax school, which is starting soon. We advertise tax school, because it is basically a way to train new part-time employees for our company. It's also a service we offer in case the average Joe wants to learn to prepare his own taxes. Two hours of Sherwooding later, we were done. We headed back to the office and reported back to Lana, our supervisor.
In the time we were out, Cory and I discussed the job. He was none too impressed about it, and his attitude alarmed me a bit. I thought maybe he's just on an off day or something.
I went home, did homework, and watched the season premier of The Office on NBC (TJ, I wish that they would let you stream them in 中国). It was worth it. Hilarity ensued. Then I went and watched Little Miss Sunshine with Jenny in her room, because she has duty (house arrest) every Thursday night. I had forgotten how good LMS is. It strikes me differently every time I watch it. And I don't rewatch movies that often, so it's saying something.
Friday:
I had class until 9:50, and had agreed on Thursday to meet Cory around 11 at McCain Mall in North Little Rock to do flyers for the break rooms of the businesses there. I flew from the dorm to grab a bite at Sonic on the way to NLR in order to be there as close to 11 as possible. I texted Cory on the way and said that I'd be there in an hour. This was at 10:10. He texted me back at 10:50 that he couldn't be there until after 1.
We were not about to play that game.
I texted back, told him that I was already in NLR, that we had planned on 11, and asked what he wanted me to do. He asked if I had a list of businesses. I said, "I think we're doing the stores and restaurants in the mall." Duh. He said he was on his way. 11:15. I waited in my car reading my book. I got a phone call around 11:45 from Cory that he had quit with the company and was looking for something else.
So I called Lana, asked if she had any special instruction for me, and proceeded to do the whole job without him. I don't know why Lana hired two of us to begin with. It's not a hard job. So I was in the mall for a couple hours, finished up, drove back to Conway, typed up my report for the day, and called myself off the clock.
Then I had planned a small get-together in Toad Suck Park. We were to grill and hang out. So I went to Wal-Mart, bought the supplies, and headed out to the park. I got everything set up, and then waited and waited for people to arrive. Again, I read my book. Eventually Bekah Hargrave arrived and we cooked hotdogs. Then, later, Eryn and Edith arrived. They had been on the other side of the river looking for me for some time. They had rolled down their windows and were calling out to me. My cell phone had died earlier in my time at the park. Oops. So we all ate hotdogs and s'mores and meatless burgers (don't ask), and had a really good time. Park party was a success.
When I got home, around 10:45, I changed clothes and plopped down to watch a bit of tv before bed. I didn't make it. About 5 minutes in to a new episode of What Not to Wear I was fast asleep. Transplanted to my bed, I slept for about 12 hours and reemerged groggy but alive midday today.
Ah, the weekend!
