I had a job interview on Friday afternoon with a company in Jacksonville. It went well; I interviewed to be the head of marketing for a tax preparation company. I should know something on Monday or Tuesday.
I got half-scammed by a Craigslist.org job posting. I know that a lot of what gets posted on that site is not legit, but I thought I'd found a good opportunity to be a private tutor. It seemed fishy to me, but I pursued it anyway through emails. I ran it past a few people, too, to see if I was just being paranoid. They said it sounded legit, but I still felt weird, so I was evasive in my responses. Then, I saw a warning about that particular scam system on Craigslist. It has to do with cashing a bogus check and then wiring the money to someone who will invariably disappear and leave you footing the bill (of course, that's not how they present it!). I sent the guy an email that said I know he's a phony and not to try contacting me again.
I hate feeling like I've been duped!
In other news, my classes are all centered around the USSR and Karl Marx lately. It makes me want to learn Russian. Just a little bit. I mean, I've got the communist part down. This week, it seems, I'll retain the USSR in some classes, but move on into the Enlightenment and Romanticism in Honors. Weird jump, actually, now that I think of it: Marx one week but Byron, Shelley, Keats, and Hugo the next? Wow. That's dissociative.
Finally, Esquire magazine. Holy cow, the cover has an e-ink display. Apparently for this special 75th anniversary issue, the folks over at the Esquire offices decided to be awesome. Check it out.
Anyway, I didn't know this had happened until I almost died in the middle of Barnes & Noble on Friday afternoon. I was browsing the magazine area on my way out, and the cover of Esquire, which I have bought maybe twice before, was BLINKING at me. Like a neon sign or something. Pretty amazing. The cover is only about 1/8 to 1/4 in. thick, so really nothing substantial. It's basically the coolest thing that has happened to me by accident in a bookstore in a long time. I missed B&N while I was in China.
