So my constituents can breathe more easily, I want to announce that I did, in fact, vote.  In the last few hours I decided to vote conservatively.  And then, when viewing the mock ballot while waiting in line to vote, I realized that I would vote rather conservatively on issues in the state.  Of course, the things and people for whom I voted lost.  We're letting unwed couples adopt and an historic lotto into the state of Arkansas.

While I admire the rhetorical prowess of President-elect Obama, I do find myself wondering where slogans will end and real ideas will begin.  In his acceptance address last night, I kept hearing "Yes we can!" as punctuation.  If that is true, my fellow Americans, why haven't we been?  To blame the problems of our country on Bush is like blaming him for natural disasters, acts of terror, or financial meltdowns years in the making.  Oh, wait, we're doing that.

I guess we will have at least 4 years to see where President Obama takes us as a country, and we will see what kind of world develops around us.  I'd put my money on things will get worse before they get better.  Let the blame begin.

Actually, a "yes" vote on the foster parenting ballot initiative was to prevent cohabitating adults from being foster parents. It passed. So we're not letting unwed couples adopt, we're preventing unwed couples from fostering children.

Well said, my friend. I mentioned to Wade just last night that I was somewhat looking forward to January, just for the fact that I'm so sick of hearing how all the world's problems are the fault of Pres. Bush. But he quickly pointed out that people who blame others will still blame others, even if their guy is in the Oval Office.

It's also nice to know that you can understand what it's like to live outside the US, politically speaking. Puts us in a very odd position. Best to just be quiet on the subject. Difficult to make friends otherwise.
